Hammerton Wagler O’Neill + Kaelin Murphy

Modern jazz trio Hammerton/Wagler/O’Neill return to Heartwood Concert Hall! Joining them will be Kaelin Murphy on trumpet. Sparks flew when Kaelin sat in with HWO at the Avalon in 2015 and 2016. Since then Kaelin has moved to Toronto where he is studying at U of T, as well as playing with some of the best young musicians in the city. He has also spent time studying and performing in NYC and Ottawa as well as touring across Canada with My Son The Hurricane. HWO + Kaelin will be reuniting for two sets of modern jazz performing originals, standards and interpretations of music by The Beatles, Radiohead, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, St. Vincent and more!

 

HWO:
Piano/Bass/Drums – a classic jazz trio format. This trio is original music penned by Thomas, Tyler, and Dave. In the mix are tunes by Radiohead, the Beatles, Tears for Fears, Genesis, Tom Waits, and favourite songs from the massive ‘standards’ catalogue .

Kaelin Murphy:
Kaelin Murphy is an improvising trumpet player from Owen Sound, Ontario. He is currently residing in Toronto, studying jazz performance at the University of Toronto, while remaining an active musician playing in many different styles ranging from straight ahead jazz, to hip hop, to contemporary and free improvised music. He is also a graduate of the School of Improvisational Music(Brooklyn, NY), and alumnus of the Ottawa Youth Jazz Summit. He has had the opportunity to work and study with musicians such as Ralph Alessi, Andy Milne, Tim Berne, Jim Lewis, Chase Sanborn, Brownman Ali, Andrew Downing, Noam Lemish, among others. Kaelin recently completed a cross-Canada tour with brassfunk band My Son The Hurricane, and continues to perform in and around Toronto with various groups as both a leader and sideman.
