An Evening with Peter Elkas Band
An Evening with the Peter Elkas Band as they perform their latest release ‘LION’ as well as loads of tunes from the Elkas catalogue.
Reconvening for their first release since 2011’s acclaimed Repeat Offender, Peter Elkas and his buds have conjured up theLion EP, which owes some of its heartfelt rock, pop, and soul moves to the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Chrissie Hynde, Bonnie Raitt, Nick Lowe, Huey Lewis, and Sam and Dave.
Unlike some desperate trend chasers, from his days in the legendary Canadian cult band Local Rabbits, Elkas has always known his voice and trusted who he really is—a witty, romantic, old school soul rocker. Maybe that’s why he can hang out with Springsteen in New Jersey or collaborate with people like Charlie Sexton and Joel Plaskett. Blood brothers know their own.
Lion is the digital only introductory section of a planned full-length (Lion Lion; coming fall 2018), and was produced by Elkas at his home studio, Magnum’s Guesthouse. In terms of the Elkas-ography, here the tempo, pitch, and volume are up with a new-wave feel in spots, soul-rock in others, but ultimately reference points give way to carefully-crafted songs about strained adult relationships, their foundations, and the inevitability of loss. And wicked solos too.
