Small Town Artillery is a rock group with a horn section originally from Kaslo, British Columbia. They currently live & work in Vancouver BC. Bandleader Tom van Deursen (Guitar, Vocals) & brother Derek van Deursen (Drums, Vocals) have been playing together for 20 years, picking up their first instruments from pawn shops after seeing Colin James perform at the Kaslo Jazz Festival before either of them were teenagers.
Currently recording their third LP & booking a 3 month tour across Canada for spring 2020 that focuses on playing smaller rural centres and the filming of a documentary, this is a band that has built their name on relentless self-promotion, socially aware lyrics, and an incendiary live show.
The lineup is rounded out by Carson Webber (who won CBC Searchlight 2017 with The Long War and has since left that band to focus entirely on STA) on Bass, and a small revolving cast of horn players. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMSRMKbMCzE
‘SAGES’ is the solo psychedelic project of elf-girl, Racquel Hardy – a self-taught producer now hailing from Hamilton, Ontario.
Racquel conjures a sensually hypnotic, spiritual display blending trippy ambiance, hip-hop rhythms, and sultry vocals. Melding influences from artists from artists like Massive Attack and Thom Yorke, as well as figures more alien to electronic music such as The Used and Incubus, ‘SAGES’ brings a feminine vibe to a male-dominated genre with her own style of “Emo-Electronic”. Alex Maher is a Vancouver-based multi-instrumentalist who got his start playing jazz on alto sax. Using percussion, SPDS drum pad, electric guitar, sax and vocals, Alex creates songs one layer at a time. The Toronto born multi-instrumentalist spent his early years in North York, moving to Vancouver Island as a teen. His decade-long career has made him a mainstay in the B.C. music scene both as a solo performer and a band member (DNA6, Flannel Jimmy). He’s opened for the likes of Weezer, Wide Mouth Mason, Bachman Cummings, Mother Mother, Sam Roberts, Robert Randolph, and The Proclaimers, and played alongside B.C. favourites Kyprios, Daniel Wesley and Vince Vaccaro.
